Botulinum Toxin Treatment

A consultation-led injectable treatment designed to temporarily reduce selected muscle activity, soften movement-related lines and refine selected muscle-driven facial or body contours without erasing natural expression.

Botulinum toxin facial injection treatment at LOUAVE Dermatology Clinic
Typical treatment time About 10 minutes

Consultation, preparation and photography may require additional time.

Preparation Numbing if needed

Many facial areas can be treated without numbing, depending on sensitivity.

Early response Often 3–7 days

The response continues developing, and review timing depends on the treatment area.

Treatment planning Muscle-specific

Product, dose and injection pattern must be selected individually.

What Is Botulinum Toxin?

A temporary adjustment of selected muscle activity.

Botulinum toxin is an injectable prescription treatment that temporarily reduces nerve signalling to selected muscles. When placed precisely, it can soften lines that become more visible during frowning, smiling or raising the eyebrows.

The objective is not to freeze the entire face. Treatment should balance wrinkle softening with eyebrow position, eyelid support, smile movement and the patient’s preferred level of expression.

The same principle may also be discussed for selected muscles that contribute to a square lower face, chin dimpling, prominent neck bands or an elevated trapezius contour.

These concerns require different doses, injection depths and safety considerations. Some uses vary by product and jurisdiction and may be considered off-label.

Dynamic lines and static lines are not the same.

Botulinum toxin primarily addresses movement-driven lines. A line that remains deeply visible while the face is completely relaxed may also involve skin quality, volume loss or structural change and may require a different or combined approach.

Movement-Led Treatment Map

Treatment areas are selected by muscle function—not trends.

The areas below describe common consultation discussions. They do not confirm that every area is suitable for every patient or product.

Forehead movement Frown complex Lateral eye lines Lower-face muscles
Upper Face

Forehead Lines

Treatment may soften horizontal lines created when the eyebrows are raised. Brow position and eyelid support must be assessed carefully.

Balance is essential
Upper Face

Frown Lines

Selected muscles between the eyebrows may be treated when repeated frowning produces vertical or oblique expression lines.

Movement-led treatment
Eye Area

Crow’s-Feet Lines

Lines at the outer eyes may be softened while preserving a natural smile. Lower-eyelid support and dryness history require review.

Eye-area assessment required
Lower Face

Masseter Contouring

Enlarged chewing muscles may contribute to a wider lower-face shape. Treatment does not change the jawbone and is not suitable for every facial structure.

Muscle—not bone—treatment
Lower Face

Chin & Mouth Area

Selected muscle-driven dimpling or downward pull may be discussed after evaluating smile balance, lip support and facial asymmetry.

Often product-dependent use
Neck & Body

Neck or Trapezius

Selected platysmal or trapezius concerns may require higher-volume and anatomically precise treatment with different functional considerations.

Specialist assessment essential
Choose the Correct Treatment Type

Botox, filler and lifting devices solve different problems.

01

Botulinum Toxin

Temporarily reduces selected muscle activity. It is most relevant when facial movement or an enlarged muscle is creating the concern.

Primary target: muscle activity
02

Dermal Filler

Adds or restores selected volume and structural support. It may be discussed when a fold, hollow or contour issue remains visible without movement.

Primary target: volume or structure
03

Energy-Based Lifting

Uses ultrasound, radiofrequency, laser or microwave energy for selected laxity, firmness or contour concerns without directly replacing lost volume.

Primary target: tissue laxity or firmness
LOUAVE Treatment Process

Precise treatment begins before the injection.

Muscle movement, resting facial balance and previous treatment response guide the product, dose, depth and placement selected by the doctor.

01

Consultation & Medical Review

The doctor reviews your goals, medical history, medications, previous toxin treatment and any earlier adverse response.

02

Dynamic Muscle Assessment

You may be asked to frown, smile, raise the eyebrows, clench the jaw or move the neck so the responsible muscles can be identified.

03

Cleansing & Treatment Mapping

The skin is cleansed and disinfected. Injection points are selected according to anatomy, asymmetry and the intended degree of movement reduction.

04

Precise Injection

Small amounts are placed into selected muscles using a fine needle. The number of points depends on the treatment area and plan.

05

Aftercare & Review Planning

Immediate precautions, expected changes, warning symptoms and the appropriate time for reviewing the response are explained.

Response Timeline

The treatment develops gradually—not instantly.

Timing differs by product, dose, muscle size, treatment area and individual response.

Day 0

Treatment Day

Small bumps, pinpoint redness, tenderness or bruising may be temporarily visible.

3–7

Early Change

Reduced muscle strength may begin to become noticeable, although the response may appear earlier or later.

Review

Result Assessment

The area should be allowed adequate time to settle before symmetry or additional dosing is considered.

Later

Movement Returns

The effect is temporary. Muscle activity gradually returns, and maintenance timing varies.

Treatment should not be repeated too early simply because the response is still developing. Product-specific guidance and the clinician’s review should determine timing.

Suitability & Medical Screening

A quick procedure still requires a complete medical assessment.

Botulinum toxin may be discussed when:

  • Expression-related forehead, frown or outer-eye lines are the primary concern.
  • Selected muscle activity is creating chin dimpling, downward pull or neck bands.
  • Enlarged masseter muscles contribute to lower-face width.
  • You prefer a temporary and adjustable treatment plan.
  • Your expectations are compatible with preserving natural facial movement.

Tell the doctor before treatment about:

  • Pregnancy, planned pregnancy or breastfeeding.
  • Neuromuscular conditions, swallowing problems, breathing problems or significant facial weakness.
  • Infection, inflammation or an open wound near the proposed injection area.
  • Previous allergic reaction to a botulinum toxin product or any of its ingredients.
  • Antibiotics, muscle relaxants, blood-thinning medicines and all recent injectable or surgical procedures.
Aftercare

Protect the treatment area while the injection sites settle.

Follow the specific instructions provided by your treating doctor. Advice may vary according to the treatment area, product, dose and your health history.

Avoid pressure

Do not rub, massage or press the treated points unless the doctor specifically instructs otherwise.

Plan exercise carefully

Ask when strenuous exercise, sauna, intense heat and other activities can safely be resumed.

Expect minor marks

Pinpoint redness, small bumps, tenderness or bruising can occur temporarily.

Report unusual symptoms

Contact the clinic promptly for unexpected weakness, marked asymmetry or symptoms that concern you.

Patient receiving professional skincare consultation after injectable treatment

International patients should allow sufficient time for the response to develop and avoid planning last-minute corrective treatment immediately before departure.

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions about Botox treatment in Seoul.

Product selection, dosage, treatment areas and expected duration must be confirmed during consultation.

Will Botox make my face look frozen?
Excessive or poorly balanced treatment can reduce more movement than desired. A consultation-led plan aims to soften selected muscle activity while preserving the expressions that are important to you.
How is Botox different from filler?
Botulinum toxin temporarily reduces selected muscle activity. Filler adds or restores volume. Movement-driven lines and resting folds therefore require different assessment and may not respond to the same procedure.
When will I notice a result?
LOUAVE notes that an early response is commonly noticed within approximately three to seven days. The treatment may continue developing after that, and review timing depends on the product and area.
How long does the effect last?
Duration varies with the product, dose, muscle strength, treatment area, metabolism and previous treatment history. The effect is temporary and muscle movement gradually returns.
Can Botox make a square jaw smaller?
It may reduce the prominence of enlarged masseter muscles over time. It does not change the jawbone, remove facial fat or guarantee a slimmer face. Patients with limited facial volume require careful assessment.
Can forehead and frown lines be treated together?
They may be treated within one plan, but the two muscle groups influence eyebrow position differently. Treating one area without assessing the other can affect balance.
Is the procedure painful?
Most injections are brief and use a fine needle. Pinching, pressure or stinging may be felt. Numbing cream may be used when clinically appropriate or requested.
Can I receive treatment immediately after arriving in Seoul?
Treatment is possible only after in-person medical and facial assessment. Travel fatigue, swelling, illness, recent procedures and the date of departure may affect the recommended timing.
What side effects may occur?
Temporary pain, redness, swelling, bruising, headache, asymmetry or unwanted weakness may occur. Area-specific effects can include eyelid or brow droop, altered smile, chewing fatigue or neck weakness.
When should I seek urgent medical care?
Seek urgent medical care for difficulty breathing, swallowing or speaking; severe generalized weakness; major vision changes; or signs of a serious allergic reaction. Do not wait for a routine follow-up.

Important treatment information

This page provides general educational information and does not replace an individual medical consultation. Botulinum toxin products are prescription medicines and are not interchangeable unit for unit. Approved indications, formulations and product availability vary by country. Some treatment areas described on this page may be off-label. Treatment must be selected and administered by an appropriately qualified medical professional after reviewing anatomy, muscle function, health history, medications, previous procedures and informed consent. Temporary effects may include injection-site pain, redness, swelling, bruising, headache, asymmetry or unwanted muscle weakness. Area-specific complications may include eyelid or brow droop, dry eye, altered smile, chewing fatigue, neck weakness or swallowing difficulty. Rarely, toxin effects may spread beyond the injection area and cause serious symptoms. Seek urgent medical attention for difficulty breathing, swallowing or speaking, significant generalized weakness, major vision changes or signs of a severe allergic reaction. Results and duration vary and cannot be guaranteed.
